Pretty urgent response if yous can???? was created by RandomPillars
Im going on a spur of the moment observation trek with a friend. He lives in drumcondra. So does anyone know of a good spot in north dublin or a little further (maybe somewhere past the airport on the M1) where we could get some time in?

Would appreciate some quick advice folks if yous can....

Many thanks,

Sean

Yes, Sean. I do not know the place personally myself.
But Michael Murphy does. As far as I do know, it is somewhere north of Balbriggan.
I am quite certain Michael will inform us all where this place is.
He is regularly on the this website.

Clear skies,

Aubrey.

Thanks Aubrey,

We went out that way. Ended up in a secluded lane which probably has seen its fair share of shady dealings. I took your directions and went north of Balbriggan. It had a good southern view so we set up. We arrived in time to see Saturn and a very low Mars. M main aim was to show my friend some of the objects that give me the wow factor. So Saturn was obviously a great start (don't the rings look amazing at the moment?). We also viewed the double cluster in Perseus (or is it Cassiopeia?), the ring nebula in Lyra, the great glob in Hercules, Andromeda and the Triangulum. We also had a look at M103 and NGC663 in Cassiopeia.

We finished off with a good look at the moon as it rose. Really enjoyed talking Astronomy, Cosmology and... ahem.... the future of AI and human evolution (starting from the Fermi Paradox and the Drake Equation)

Hi Sean,

I've been to Mellifont Abbey outside Drogheda.

See what you think of Mellifont Abbey, Sean.
That is Michael's advice.

That sure is a very fine list of objects. The Double Cluster is in northern Perseus alright
Those open clusters in Cassiopeia are stunning too.
Well done, Sean.

Aubrey.

Hey folks. Yes Michael, ill try the abbey next time. Assuming the grounds are open to the public. Scaling fences not only illegal but with a 12" dob strapped to your back...

Yes it was a good observing night Aubrey but i really need to start bringing a plan of what i want to see maybe with S&T pocket sky atlas.
