Hello all. I had a nice time on Thursday night with my 6.2" apochromatic refractor.

You can see what I saw on the Moon in the adjoining post.

Jupiter is still stunning and closing in on Carbon star X Cancri. X is very much a deep orange / red N class star and it is 2 degrees southwest of Jupiter. I can fit both in my 28mm 2" eyepiece There are lots of other field stars nearby. Including another bright variable red star FZ Cancri even closer (west) to the giant planet. I must give more magnitude estimates for these variables over the next couple of weeks.

I also observed U Orionis . John O'Neill recommended checking this red M class star in the Orbit magazine. It is currently of magnitude 6.5 in my opinion which is almost at its brightest.

Thank you for reading. See some of you tonight at Sandymount.

Aubrey.
