After seeing a fb post about an impact on Jupiter, I realised I had caught the same impact when i went back through my videos:

Was anyone else imaging Jupiter at the same time? I recommend going back over your videos if you were.

Great catch John, yours is easily the higher quality of the two videos. I see the Hubble people were contacted but they doubt if there would have been a visible scar. Still an awesome bolide though.

Congratulations, John McKeon.

I have never seen anything such as this, and thank for putting it on You Tube.
I can make your video full screen!

Aubrey.

Fantastic work John, a serendipitous discovery of importance! I’ am just thankful we weren’t on the receiving end of such an event, lucky we have a big brother Jupiter to deal with such cosmic events!

An exceptional capture John, it's so impressive to see not only the initial impact but also the following plume being ejected from Jupiters atmosphere

This is a fabulous capture. I showed the video as part of my warm-up for the Kevin Nolan talk at the IAA this evening ending with "Congratulations to John on that excellent capture..." and the audience burst into spontaneous applause!

Kevin Nolan was also fantastic!

Well done.

Paul.

I agree too with Michael and Kinch.

Meanwhile on Russia Today (news TV channel), I just got the end of a news report mentioning that some Irish astronomer observed the impact and showed the very same video on a news bulletin as we have here. Unfortunately, I missed if they mentioned John McKeon.

Kind regards,

Aubrey.

Thanks all. The interest it is generating is really huge not just in the astronomy community. Great to see so many articles spreading the news.

I think this one might be the most infomative:

Another Jovian impact was apparently captured yesterday evening (May 26) by a French observer:
