Question re Moonlite Crayfords was created by TrevorDurity
Hi all, I'm rebuilding my 12.5 inch dob and getting some truss components from Moonlite. I'm also thinking of replacing the focuser and am very tempted by their Crayford. www.focuser.com/cgi-bin/dman.cgi?page=pr...store.cgi&product=CR

Thinking of getting this with a standard 2" 1-screw drawtube for it's lower profile but am humming and hawing over dual-speed vs single speed. Does anyone have any experience with Moonlites? I love the dual speed on the William Optics scopes but if the moonlite single speed is good enough for visual planetary use I may skimp on the option (100 bucks). Any advice greatly appreciated.

Trev,
I have a dual speed Moonlite on my 16" SCT.. Very good focuser.
However, I would strongly recommend dual speed or some other means of fine focusing for imaging purposes.

Many thanks Michael. Think I'll go for it. Probably won't do any imaging but I have an eq-platform kit which I haven't used yet - so better to be future proof I guess. Not going to have time to build that for an age yet though.
Cheers

At some point in the future I'll have to replace my MK67's single-speed - trying to focus with any kind of fine control is a real headache.

A dual speed focuser is not far off a necessity IMHO.

Thanks for the input guys. Have just received the dual speed focuser in the post. Ron at Moonlite was a pleasure to deal with. Focuser is built like a tank and I'm stunned by how smooth the motion is - seems alot nicer than the wo refractor focusers.

Now to finish rebuilding the dob to put it on!
