Our 2015 IDA Calendar was such a great success (it quickly sold out!) that we've decided to do it again for 2016. This time we're opening it up to all the talented night sky photographers out there.

We invite night sky photographers to submit their images to be considered for our prestigious 2016 IDA Calendar. We're looking for images that highlight the importance and beauty of the night sky.

We prefer images taken from our International Dark Sky Places, but will also consider images from other locales, as well.

Although we're unable to provide compensation for the images selected, we will publicly thank and actively promote the selected photographers and their websites via the calendar, our website, social media, and our Night Watch e-newsletter.

Please forward this email to anyone you think would be interested!

Submission is open until June 5, 2015.

Submission Guidelines:
Submit images or instructions for
  • retrieving images to susan at darksky.org.
  • Provide your full name, website and social media URLs (if applicable).
  • Provide a date, location and description of the image.
  • Submitted images must be high enough quality (300 DPI minimum) to be printed on a horizontal, 11 x 8 ½ horizontal sheet of paper.
  • Submissions are limited
  • to
five per photographer.
Copyright and legal notes
All submitted images must be the original work of the entrant. The photographer retains full copyright of their image, but agrees to have his/her image published in our 2016 Calendar and - in the context of promoting the calendar - our website, print and online publications, and social media.

Please contact susan at darksky.org if you have questions about the contest.
