Hi,

Its time to start talking about the MM again!

The optimal time to do it is apparently March20th this year with the New moon.

Anyone in the dublin area interested in finding a site that isnt surrounded by trees where we could go and try it?

Cheers,
~Al

hi folks,

just uploaded the software off the old Yahoo group to the Files section here which will compute the visibility of Messier objects from your location for a Marathon -- from what I remember, I think 99 or so objects was the best you could do from Ireland.

click on www.irishastronomy.org/user_resources/viewFiles.php?folder_id=5 to go to the area in the directory and download the Messmara.zip file.

there's also a HTML file there with details of an alternate "Messier" Marathon in September. Worth doing one at each major star party in the year??? Have to source one for the Connacht Star Party also (great event btw folks!)

Hi

Just to let you know there is a Messier Marathon tonight on Slieve Croob, County Down.

This will probably the only time til September when you will be able to see up to 102 Messier objects. The weather for Cosmos is expected to be bad so come along and gather with the East Antrim Astronomical Society at Slieve Croob tonight from 19:30hrs.

Details are on our website.
