Given this probably once in a life time event, can we put something up on the front page about this comet, even if its just a link to the relevant threads on the site about the comet. This comet is what I'd call "a hot topic"

Exactly what I was thinking Frank, how about something like
In the early hours of Wednesday 24th October 2007, astronomers around the world notices that Comet Holmes had reached naked eye visibility, it went through an explosive outburst increasing its brightness from magnitude 17 to magnitude 3 in the space of 24 hours.
Stay uptodate and see images by fellow Irish astronomers in the following links.
