The allowed types are:
Text Files
PDF Files

Are there any other file types that people would like to suggest as needed?

Perhaps .doc files?? ( in case we want to provide bote text and jpegs in one file)
That's what PDFs are for. This site caters for everyone, not just MS drones!
I point blank refuse to pay hundreds of quit of my hard earned money to view files saved in a proprietary format when there are many fine formats available that are free for all to view!

That can be troublesome. As a uer of 5.6K, and an MS Drone, then there is litte choice if I have a legitimate e.g. 1MB file. BUT, I do have my StarOffice 7, which can easily (and quicker than Adobe) convert my MS Word/Excel/Access file to .pdf! AND ITS FREE!
Bart, perhaps a Useful Tools For Using irishastronomy.org section would be good. Pointers for file submissions (with reasons - voluntary website, limited bandwidth, plenty of users constructivey using up months bandwidth in first week etc), direct links on the web to e.g. Starffice, how to's on conversion, or other free (with little grafiti/banners as possible) to .pdf converts etc etc etc.

Or if you don't want to go down the StarOffice or OpenOffice route then you can just get PDF Creator which is free as well.
I'd also say that there's no need to allow HTML file uploads. Call me paranoid but they can have embedded code into them which could be nasty.[/url]
