coruscations attending the whole length of the luminosity, giving to the phenomena the aspect of a wrathful messenger, and not that of a tranquil body pursuing a harmless course..comet of 1680

During an all night observing session myself and Conor spotted a NLC display from 02.30 - 03.40 local time. It extended 62* in length and 10* in height and was a nice sight hanging below Capella. It dominated the NW -N-NE sky sector and was a type IIa display (elongated thin bands with diffuse edges) and of type 2 brightness. The display was easy to see but not bright and i feel many would have missed it with the untrained eye if they did not know what to be looking for. It was white and was visible right up until before dawn so it held up well against the bright orange/green/blue sky before sunrise. Conor and i walked to a high location and took plenty of images however since the display was unexpected we had no tripod and had to make do with our shots being handheld.
Anyway heres 2 of my images at ISO400/2 sec Exp/Auto Mode showing how elusive they where. Thanks to kevin Black also from the EAAS for confirming the display as well. This is my 6th NLC display of the season.
Happy observing

Yes martin and i had a great nite's observing last nite with meteors to spare and a lovely display of NLC . The nite was getting long and it was just lovely sitting in the back garden and watching the Milky Way gleam high in the sky. About 2:30am we headed up to the site hill and watched the display form while we chatted about the successful nite we have just had, especially when its my last nite before i head to see Spain's fabulous skies,
