Resignation from these boards. was created by DaveGrennan
In light of the sequence of posts in the 'Observing Equipment' section and in particular in light of the moderator of that boards failure to respond to my concerns, I feel I have no option but to withdrawn from future posting on these boards. I cannot participate in a discussion where I am not free to offer my opinions or suggestions.
I ask that the board administrator delete my account without further delay.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you for all of the great discussions had over the past while and to wish all of you and your societies best wishes and clear skies.

Hi Dave/all,
I have sent a pm to Dave regarding our exchanges today on the Observing Equipment forum.
Earlier today I decided that it was best if I resigned as moderator for that forum. I have explained a bit more on that in a personal pm to Dave. Although I had resigned before I saw this post from Dave, I hope that he will feel that this action is sufficient for him to reconsider and continue to play a role in our forums.
Best WIshes,
~Al

Can I offer an opinion on this as an outsider who's never met either of you and is a relative newcomer to this hobby? I think there is an element of 'handbags' going on here.
Personally I wouldn't purchase from AI as I feel that they should advertise their prices at the price they would accept if you have to cop on to shop around. For that I consider them price-gougers. That said, if Dave wishes to point out that they will lower their prices on request that's his right. You mightn't agree with it but hey - if we all agreed all the time there'd be no need for discussion. I enjoy reading his posts and I like the column in the mag (tbh it's the only part of that mag that I consider worthwhile).
On the other hand - Al was a bit quick to criticise in this case and I have got the feeling from previous posts here and on boards.ie that he intensely dislikes AI and that comes out quite a bit. But you're a good mod. You were helpful and patient to me when I was first asking lots of questions about buying a scope as was everyone else on this board and you do good work keeping threads on track.
But for both of you to resign (as mod and as a poster) is a little OTT.
For the two of you to quit over something relatively minor is pointless imo. You'll both be depriving the community here of your expertise and experience.
So how's about just kissing and making up and let's all put this awkward little episode behind us

No kissing!
I'm resigning as moderator of the forum in question, not resigning altogether (so stop celebrating some of you!).

Lads, lads, lads....I turn away for a few hours and look at what happens! I'm a bit disappointed at both people concerned as I feel ye have both completely over-reacted.
Both of you should just let the dust settle for a few days. Have a think about it and hopefully you'll both realise the sillyness of what has happened.
