Astronomy & Space - Jan/2004 issue was created by ayiomamitis
Dear List,

Best wishes to everyone for a healthy, prosperous and productive 2004!

I was wondering if someone can help me with something in relation to the Jan/2004 issue of Astronomy & Space. In Mar/2003 I submitted an article to David Moore following his okay to do the same which dealt with the photography of Iridium satellite flares (see www.perseus.gr/Astro-Tips-Iridium.htm ). I have sent a couple of emails which have gone unanswered in relation to this article as well as a photo unrelated to this article which he wanted in high-res format for publication as well.

I see that the cover photo for the Jan/2004 issue indicates an article on iridium flares. Can some kind soul please let me know if the article is the one posted at the above link or totally different? I have checked repeatedly a number of local magazine sources for Astronomy & Space without any luck and, as a result, I am totally in the dark (excuse the pun).

Suddenly not getting any replies from the Editor to my emails is also discouraging as well.

Thanks in advance.

Anthony.

Hi Anthony,

No - it is totally different to that article.

Thats disappointing...

I sent him an artile last week on the Irish Light Pollution Awareness Campaign, and about light pollution in general but havent heard anything back yet. Hopefully its just because they are on holidays still.

Cheers,

Sorry for taking so long ot get back to you ... the weekend sorta got in the way!

As has already been said the article in question is different to yours and has no credit at all.

Still seems very odd to me that he would take an Irriduim article off you and thne get some one else to write another one ... I wonder was your article used asa source for the one that was published? :?

Bart,

Reading the published "News" item and Anthony's web page, one can easily see that they are not even remotely alike. I don't know specifically who wrote the article, obviously one of the editorial team so no credit, but it's fairly basic information. Iridium flares have been around for a long time and Google provides 10,900 references!
