Lidl Skylux Refractor

hi all! im just wondering what price the skylux refractor was? the link has changed `cos its changed every week or so! And now im sure many of you out there have bought it and id love to know what you think of it as im considering of getting it!

I was 59E for me also.

Nothing too faint anyway thats for sure! My dad has a 4.5" scope but the mount alone weighs about 4 kilos!!! Plus he doesnt realy like me heaving it around!!! I already have decent plossls! A 4mm,9mm and a 25 mm! We Will be getting more! actually i have 2 more questions 1, the diagonal, do you suggest getting a differnt brand and 2, what size is the barrel e.g. .969/1.25"?

Matthew - if its visual observing, you'll get what a typical 70mm refractor will give... Nice wide fields nice lunar stuff, not much detail on planets etc but good for large clusters and nebulae.

If its imaging, I can attest to the quality of the Skylux to give nice clear images.

I got my Skylux last year and whilst the OTA was good, the mount was mediocre and eyepieces/diagonal pretty poor. They are 1.25" though.

Your decent plossls will help - though the 4mm might stretch the capalities of the scope too far. If you can get a decent diagonal, do so. Though don't forget, you can look through the scope without a diagonal if you're prepared to twist a bit And of course, its one less optical path for he light to bounce off and could make a difference in the final image you see.

As for the mount, I think the new Skylux might be better than last year's model. However, I took mine apart and regreased it. The grease they used was really sticky and gooey and didn't help fine adjustments. If you buy the new one and it feels tight or non-smooth, I'd recommend a clean and regrease.
