Just wondering, is there a book available that documents the history of the Leviathan and the Third Earl of Rosse??

'The Astronomy of Birr Castle' by Patrick Moore is a good read ....they sell it at Birr Castle, but you didn't buy one when you were there last weekend did you?

The Astronomy of Birr Castle is not the easiest book to get hold in bookshops or even Amazon, so if Birr Castle sell it, that's probably your best bet. There is an 1971 hardback edition and a reprinted 1992 softback edition, which may be the one Birr Castle now sell. Quacks Books, Jackson House, 53 Petergate, York, YO1 2HT, are the publishers of the softback. It's an interesting book to read but I would have liked to see more of Lord Rosses's drawings depicted.

There is another book titled "Reconstruction of the Rosse Six Foot Telescope" written by Michael Tubridy: Birr Castle, 1998. Haven't read the book; presumably Birr castle also sell it.

I asked in Birr Castle when I was down there if they had that book (The Astronomy of Birr Castle), and they didn't.

I was fortunate enough to find a copy in the antiques auction room across the road First edition 1971, which I was very pleased with.

Just type 'Birr Castle' into the 'title' search box, and you'll see them.

I've been doing (on and off) a little research into observations by the Earl. Searching though the archives of the RAS can be fruitful (start at adsabs.harvard.edu/abstract_service.html ). A copy of the some of the observation articles to the RDS are kept in their archives, which I hope to get at soonish.
