South Dublin meeting on 2nd March was created by johnflannery
hi all,
sorry about the late notice.
everybody is welcome to attend this month's meeting of the South Dublin Astronomical Society which will be held in Gonzaga College, Ranelagh at 8pm on Thursday, 2nd March 2006.
the speaker on the night is Dr Ian Sanders of the Geology Department, Trinity College Dublin. Dr Sanders will give a talk on Meteorites and the Early Solar System.
next week, on Thursday 9th, we will have our special pre-total solar eclipse meeting in Gonzaga. More details on this to follow but we have a comprehensive programme lined up for the evening with talks on eclipse photography, the hows and whys of eclipses, and viewing the 2006 eclipse.
atb,
John

One I was hoping to get to, but considering the geography, and the fact that I start work at 11pm, I'd be pushing my luck to be there...
I think John, for those that perhaps would like to go (as its being called a pre-eclipse meeting!) but can't, there might not be any harm in getting a Minutes of the meeting organised and distributed????

hi Seanie,
no problemo re: the eclipse meeting. I'm doing up a 20-page booklet on solar eclipses at the moment and will post it up to the web site as a pdf when complete (aiming to have it all done by next Wednesday). The contents are;
Cover Page
Introduction and Contents (plus eclipse safety)
The 2006 Total Solar Eclipse (3 pages . . . 2 of maps)
The Hows and Whys of Eclipses (2 pages)
The Sun Inside Out (1 page)
Riddle of the Lunar Atmosphere (2 pages . . . nature of the corona)
Tales of Fear and Terror (2 pages . . . mythology and historic eclipses)
The Eclipse Experience (2 pages)
Eclipse Photography (2 pages . . . contributed by Fred Espenak)
Future Eclipses (1 page)
Lunar Eclipses (1 page)
Looking South from 36 degrees North (1 page on observing from Antalya)
Resources (1 page . . . books, videos/dvds, software, and web sites)

Sounds good John, but what about the "what to do" and the "who to do it with" parts - the basis for promoting this meeting as the only pre-eclipse one!

This is an SDAS eclipse meeting. If its the only one then its only because other clubs havent organised more
Actually the IAA are organising one also I think.

Hhmmm... so a communal meeting prior to leaving in 3 weeks is not really on the cards? I mean, SAC/KAC members asre hardly going to go to Dublin for a 2 hour talk?!?!?
There are a lot of strangers going on this trip, thats why I proposed a meeting where as many as possible could turn up, and swap ideas for things to do, get to know each other more, and perhaps share e.g. us two are thinking of renting a car for the week - anyone else want to share and chip in? and stuff like that...
