SDAS Solar Eclipse Meeting on March 9th was created by johnflannery
hi all,
everyone is invited to come along on the evening of March 9th at 8pm
to Gonzaga College, Ranelagh, Dublin for a pre-eclipse celebration.
the evening will feature a series of short talks on all aspects of
eclipses with speakers on the night including Dave Grennan from
Astronomy Ireland, Brian Seales of the ecliptomaniacs, and eclipse
veteran John O'Neill of the IAS.
we will also have various books and eclipse t-shirts on display along
with an eclipse quiz and hopefully a video on the 1999 total solar
eclipse. Food and soft-drinks available on the night too.
Gonzaga College is on the Sandford Road in Ranelagh Village.
Directions are:
-- from Clonskeagh and southside of Dublin, head towards Ranelagh
village but just before the village, take the left turn immediately
before the church that is on the Sandford Road. (there is a set of
traffic lights here). Follow this side-road up past the avenue of
trees but veer right when near the top towards the school buildings.
Cars will be parked in front of the school and the meeting is in the
first classroom down the righthand corridor after you go through the
main doors.
-- from town, go through Ranelagh village and you will see
McSorley's Pub/Wongs Restaurant on the right. About 100 metres on you
come to a set of traffic lights. You will see the church on the
Sandford Road on your right. Go through these lights but immediately
be prepared to turn right AFTER the church (there is a road before it
as well). Follow this side-road up past the avenue of trees but veer
right when near the top towards the school buildings. Cars will be
parked in front of the school and the meeting is in the first
classroom down the righthand corridor after you go through the main
doors.
if anyone would like further information they may ring me AFTER
6:30pm on 0-8-6/8-1-8-1-9-3-1
hope to see you there!

hi Dave,
no charge . . . SDAS meetings always free.
well done on getting the Observatory Code! It's a great acknowledgement of the hard work you have been putting in. Was it your location btw that had the problem with a stuffy neighbour not going to do anything about an exterior light? Tell them they'll have the wrath of the world's astronomers redirecting a Near-Earth Asteroid towards their roof now!
