Why no Nobel Prize for Astronomy? was created by pmgisme
According to Sky& Telescope magazine,(reviewing a new biography of Alfred Nobel) we don't have a "Nobel Prize for Astronomy" because Alfred's wife ran away with an Astronomer.
Can't trust them Astronomers.(Dead right too.)
It still does not explain why there is no Nobel prize for Mathematics.
Nobel loved maths, and found found maths dead easy,as do mathematically gifted people.
Maybe one of his girlfriends ran away with a Mathematician.
Peter.

Better that old people should die of talk than to have young people die in war.

Astronomy falls into the realm of Physics. The 2002 and 2006 Nobel Prizes for Physics were astronomy-related.

Or perhaps I didn't consider tidbits of licidious gossip about someone who died 110 years ago to be the important points in your post?

Actually just to through a pigeon among the cats, so to speak, Astronomy covers and depends on physics, chemistry, biology, geology, quantum mechanics, particle physics etc. Given that all of us and and our surroundings are made of star dust then a Noble prize for for anything is also one for astronomy.
