Incoming..... was created by dmcdona
This from Peter Birtwhistle, Great Shefford, UK...

Take a look at MPEC 2007-V69 just announced...

www.cfa.harvard.edu/mpec/K07/K07V69.html

"The minimum distance from the geocenter is 0.000081 AU (1.89 Earth
radii) on Nov 13.844 UT"

just beating the previous record close approach of 2004 FU162, but
this time we have 5 days lead time.

Dave, I take it you now read the follow up posts? Turns out that some-one noticed the ephemerids were very similar to the incoming ROSETTA craft!! Yes this is no asteroid its ROSETTA and will be visible at mag +9.7 when at closest approach at 20:15UT on Nov 13

See follow up MPC circular which confirms this is in fact ROSETTA returning for it's slingshot around Earth!

www.cfa.harvard.edu/mpec/K07/K07V70.html

I just had a quick look at the ephemerids and it looks good boys and girls. I'll knock up a map and post!

Regards and Clear Skies,

Dave.

Sorry guys its not an asteroid!

Denis Denisenko (at IKI, Moscow) has noted that this object
is likely to be "Rosetta -- not a stone", which has indeed been
confirmed by the Minor Planet Center, which has issued a correction:

www.cfa.harvard.edu/mpec/K07/K07V70.html

For visual observation this may not actually reduce its
interest telescopically, but at least you're forewarned!
