hi folks,

just a short note to say that I posted up a note to CloudyNights.com about the observing challenges (and the Nov/Dec Arcturus with the Charles Wood interview) and everyone is raving about the material on the IFAS web site.

well done to everyone on the Observing Challenges team . . . take a bow . . .

the threads about the IFAS Handbooks now appear on the Lunar Observing, Beginners, and Binocular forums, while Arcturus gets a look in on the Stellar Reading forum. The moderators have also included the IFAS site as a "must see" site for new members of their boards.

based on the "views" statistics, there could have been a few hundred downloads already of the Handbooks.

hope to get some more Handbooks produced in the next few months.

all the best,

John

Just checked out the control panel:

Traffic since Nov 29, 2004 is
2.1 GB out of 2.0 GB limit

We appear to be a victim of our own success. We are looking at heading to about double our allowed bandwidth for this month!!!

That will work out at a surcharge of about 12.10 for this month alone!

10% of our hitd are heading straight for the observering challenges page and there have been over 1,500 observing challenges hand books downloaded this month alone!!!

It is now the 9th and we are already over bandwidth, by the 31st we will be about tripple by my reconing. If tihs goes up too high I will have to temporarily remove the observing challenges they are HUGE and being hit many many times a day.

Can these handbooks be placed on another sever and linked to via this site? A download site like SimTel, a friendly university or similar.

If anyone has a server on offer I'm all ears!
