Grand Slam! was created by dmcdona
If the Irish Rugby Team can do it, so can we!
Dave Grennan (J41, Raheny Observatory, Dublin) has discovered a sixth asteroid from Ireland - and he gets his own personal hat-trick!
2009 FV19 is Dave's third discovery (after 2008 US3 and 2009 EN1). Its a main-belt asteroid, orbiting between Mars and Jupiter and is likely to be around 2-4km across.
It was discovered over the weekend and confirmation just came through this morning from the IAU MPC.
In recent times Dave has also been actively following up NEO's (near earth objects) so we can all sleep safe and sound at night and has helped confirm a comet in the last few days.
This is another great achievement for Dave and for amateur astronomy in Ireland. Like Bernard Dunne, we're punching well above our weight! Its all the more satisfying that this is happening in IYA 2009.
A hearty big congratulations Dave - well done and keep up the excellent work.

Well done Mr. Grennan - at this rate the two Daves will have found all remaining asteroids in the solar system by the end of the year.

Programming today is a race between software engineers striving to build bigger and better programs, and the universe trying to produce bigger and better idiots. So far, the universe is winning.

Remarkable Dave, you're on quite a roll, many congratulations.
If you keep discovering asteroids at this rate you'll be able to name one after your cat when the family names are used up.
