IFAS Astronomer of the Year Award was created by dmcdona
Folks
You have the chance to vote for the person or team of people who you think have a made a significant contribution to Amateur Astronomy over the last 12 months. As such, the award is a peer recognition and the prize is the respect of your fellow astronomers and friends on the IFAS boards.
Nominations are open to all members of the website. Each member may only vote once, so make your vote count.
Please send all entries to: ifasastronomeroftheyear@gmail.com
Your entry should consist of your proposed IFAS Astronomer of the Year (either an individual or team). A short sentence or two outlining why you believe they deserve the award would be helpful too.
Closing date for entries is Friday December 18th
Best regards
Dave McDonald
IFAS Chair

Folks - I know ye are all busy, but... There have only been a handful of votes so far - I'd really like to see a lot more come in.
In order to faciltate folks who are working the pre-xmas rush and will only get a chance to vote over the weekend, I'll extend voting to Sunday 20th December.
Cheers
Dave

There hasn't been much to brag about astronomically in 2009 amongst ourselves, when you think about it...
Worst year for Astronomical records I'll bet.

Perhaps - but the IFAS Astronomer of the Year Award is a recognition of any astronomical endeavour. It doesn't have to be a specific record, it could be a combination of achievements, a noticable improvement or just for sitting outside at 03:00 in the freezing cold Of course, you could vote for someone who has given consistent services to the community over a number of years.
There are many reasons why you might vote for someone - but I urge you to vote all the same even (or even especially) if your nomination isn't for a specific record/event etc.
Hope that makes sense
