Jupiter on July 23

Here's an image from a couple of nights ago, the impact mark was not visible to us that night but the seeing was really good and Io, it's shadow, Callisto and the GRS put on a great show...

Fogive me if its a silly question - but hat does CMI, CMII, and CMII designate at the bottom of the image? Soemthing to do with colour channels?

Mark, those are the three "systems" of longitudinal measurement on Jupiter - because the clouds rotate at different rates near the pole compared to the equator you need more than one reference frame. Check out the wiki page on Jupiter for a full explanation.

god almighty Anthony! the detail is just amazing!
You can easily tell what moons they are by looking at them, its that clear!
Ever considered what would it take to capture a volcanic plume on Io. ?
I understand your setup is primarily for photographic purposes, but have you ever put on a high power eyepiece and sneaked a peak at the planet with your eyes, the view must be eye boggling :bigshock:!

Thanks Dave, I got a good chuckle from your response, that's pretty much how I was feeling when I was watching the video feed on the screen... sadly the seeing isn't always like this, I'm just glad I was recording it...

When it's winter here, and below zero, I'm happy to stay huddled under my beanie and rug inside the observatory...

I have looked visually in good seeing in the past, and the view is pretty amazing.
