New Streetlights

Hi there

I was out observing last light and one thing I did notice is that the council installed new lights recently, in the mist I could see that they cast a cone of light down towards the footpaths, there was a distinct boundary btween light and dark, so maybe they are onto something with regards to better streetlighting.

I just hope that the are going to replace existing lights and not just on new installations!

These were replacements Graham , sorry for the confusion. There are still some of the older soldium lights around the area and the difference is noteable.

Can you post a picture.

It sounds as though its part of the ESB's ongoing (for a few years now) replacement of old lights.

Yea those look like the ESB ones that we talked about before here. Since you are in Dun Laoghaire Rathdown (iirc?) ESB Networks looks after your streetlights.

The next generation might be dimmable and you'll possibly be able to send a text message to get it turned down when observing. Or so the European Expert on dimmable intelligent streelighting tells me (he's from Mayo) and will be talking at the Symposium later in the week.
