It's nice to be able to boast about something but the skies down here in this part of the World is really DARK. Our newly set up South Kerry Astronomy & Cosmology Group has a number of fantastic spots down here if any of you astronomer's/ astro-photographers want to visit.
The camping site where we are set to do our star viewing in Caherciveen has won many awards, and we have access of a lovely cosy sitting room attached to the site for a cuppa, chat or Lecture afterwards or before the viewing.
You guy's and girls just have to come down here.

Programming today is a race between software engineers striving to build bigger and better programs, and the universe trying to produce bigger and better idiots. So far, the universe is winning.

Sounds like an ideal place to have a weekends observing. I'd certainly be interested.

Wishing you all every success Julie with the new club in Kerry. You are so right about the skies being dark, dark, dark.
Similarly, I remember one time being in West Cork and thought a glow on the horizon was lights from a nearby town. When someone said there was nothing in that direction I realised it was the zodiacal light -- it was that bright!!!
Hope to get down that way some time as I'd also like to visit a few of the islands along the peninsulas again.
