I can see a faint ridge of NLC in the north, and I think it's getting brighter.
The cloud has scuppered my observing for tonight.
I got what I wanted with Venus.
also saw Saturn would you believe.
(bye bye Saturn!)
The moon was nice and 'large' rolling along the horizon.
got a few nice shots.
It's madness though. Standing here at 11:30 and I can still see everything
pretty clearly!

Quite right. At least you have phenomena which would take a miracle to occur in this part of Europe ... such as NLC's and aurorae.
Nevertheless, I do agree that we are generally blessed here in the southeastern mediterranean. Aside from the past week where temperatures reached 48d C, both clear skies and favourable temperatures make our favourite past-time once the sun sets really fun and this includes the weather.

John,Very true Anthony, but when you are 52 degrees north it is even worse (unless you live in Finland)

No argument from me. I certainly try and make every possible opportunity a reality and I am sure this is even more the case for Ireland where the weather is less favourable. I suspect you probably have better seeing but I am not really complaining about our local conditions.

Dave,Anthony, when you get the weather we get, you just have to make do with the nights that show up.

It was a really nice evening for Lunar viewing alright. As the sun set, the Moon rose. It would have been better this evening because the two objects would be almost 180 degrees apart i.e. horizon to horizon. But, again, the weather...
On my way to work, I couldn't help but take my eyes off the road now and again to watch the Moon rise, and become brighter, as my journey progressed.
On the way home in the small hours, the sky gods seemed to beat the cloud gods for once, completely. A fantastic Noctilucent Cloud display was on show preceeding the entry of the Sun. Report here .
