Bunratty Castle is so over floodlit that I'd be surprised if you can see anything in the sky for 10 miles in any direction.
It simply has to be the most light polluted point source in Ireland.
Certainly the astronauts on the ISS will see Bunratty.
Dont know about anyone near Bunratty seeing the ISS though!
Peter.

the space station took on a S shape
Indeed, that confirms my photo isn't just artefacts - I got this through the LXD75 - just left the camera on continuous and tried to get the ISS centred in the finder. I got a few shots, all similar - too overexposed to show detail - I used 1/125th sec - I shall use 1/500th or more next time.
Here's another from later in the sequence..
Looks like some motion blur too - I'll go for 1/1000th tonight if I get the chance!
Clear skies,
Paul.

Yeah it's bright down there alright.
It was hard to get the exposure, shutter & ISO settings right
(I just tested a bunch of different settings on planes heading in to land in Shannon)
Here is the best I could get.
There was a cool looking misty fog coming off the river by the castle.
The Castle itself is badly positioned for 'beauty' shots because there is basically no access to it from 3 sides and the fourth side you are facing North.
(I had to stand down in the reeds to get the right angle for this one!)
BTW,
Well done Paul in getting those shots.
Its not easy for sure!
Dave,
I love those happy accidents when you spot something like that.[/url]

Who was the golfer who, on being complimented on making a "lucky shot" replied, "Yes Mam, and the funny thing is, the more I practice, the luckier I get".
Marvellous shot Barkersum - Bunratty Tourism Inc should buy that from you if they didn't have the foresight to commission it!
I'm neither a photographer nor an accomplished astronomer (nor even a golfer) but that is truly a great shot.
Incidentally, I was on my way back from Clare to Kilkenny last night and listening to the radio when David Moore(?) from Astronomy Ireland came on. He said "the ISS is passing overhead right now - if you're driving, pull over and look up". So I did and sure enough, there it was.
Over the next half hour dozens of people texted the show to say they had seen it too. Now that's good for astronomy - and not a single one carped about commercialism or politics. Well done David and AI - it made my night.

Hmm, isn't it spooky how "happy accidents" happen more often if you put in the work - like geting down in the reeds at the right time.
Would be alright but I was talking about Dave accidentally spotting the ISS.
I was (literally) mucking around for around an hour trying to get the right angle!
