To the best of my knowledge dewing only happens when a surface gets colder than than the surrounding air (that is as long as the air is not saturated, when it will be foggy anyway and you will not see stars), so just ambient air blown onto the lens will warm it enough to clear the dew or keep it clear.
I did have one occasion when my mirror at the bottom of my Dob dewed over when a warm front rolled in and brought a cold clear night's observing to an abrupt end.. :shock:

Worse then that, alot of heat can distort the optics making the images fairly bad !.

if i bought a dew strip heater thats for a 14 inch scope, could i wrap it around my scope a few times, or do i have to buy one fitted to the scope? this would also save money whenever i upgrade.
Ohh NO!!!! Don't do that. A 14inch tape will put way too much heat into the optics. Also a 14 inch tape draws over 4 amps. Your battery won't last very long at that rate! Just get the correct one for your scope.
