Funny thing about M33, I have seen it several times im binos (15x70's) - usually a little later in the year...surface brightness is too low even for my 32mm EP in Dob

M33 is a strange one, Declan.
I've even seen it with the naked eye in a dark sky, but the more magnification, the more it vanishes.
I was very lucky on Saturday night, as I even started to discern one of the lower spiral arms.

I swear I've only seen M33 once with the naked eye, but the night in question was pristine. I have never seen detail like that of Andromeda at the eyepiece. It is a low surface brightness galaxy in comparison.

yes, M33 is a strange one. Sometimes so easy, sometimes so difficult. But I remember Dec 30 2007 when comet Tuttle was just standing next to it, also M33 was suddenly very obvious to spot. Maybe because you give more attention to it...
