The sun has reached a decent enough altitude that I tried out the PST CaK that I borrowed from Michael again. I don't know if more aperture would help or not, but I'm ready to throw in the towel at 40mm. My eyes just aren't receptive enough at the CaK wavelength to view in anything that even approaches a relaxing manner.
My Solarscope SF70 afterwards was almost blinding. I did notice a bit of disk activity in H-alpha, but I didn't sketch it.
Cheers,
-- Jeff.

Ah yea, that's it. You get yourseolf a 70mm and now the little 40mm is just another toy!
Fine sketch BTW!
I got a Meade electronic eyepiece from ebay recently so I am interested to see what it can capture on the CaK. I am told it is easier to use with the PST CaK than with the Ha. Time will tell. You might bring it the CaK to COSMOS with you, if you don't mind.
Michael.

Michael --
Given the trouble I have with CaK's wavelength, I think I'd need more like 150mm -- which isn't likely to find its way into the budget anytime soon.
Will do for PST CaK & COSMOS.

Guys,
When you cant use a cal-k scope, I know why but is the image faint/diffuse or what ??

To me, the image is extremely faint.
However, I can see a faint purple sun, but I can't see any mottled-effect like you get in the PST Ha.
If there is an active region, I can get fleeting glimpses of it, but very difficut to see.
My wife Denise however can see the Sun through it quite easily.
She can easily see that mottled-effect like you get in the PST Ha.
Varies from person to person I guess.
If anyone wants to try their luck with it, we'll set it up at COSMOS.
I would be interesting to see how many people can see detail in the CaK scope.
Michael.

My experiences are similar to Michael's, only slightly worse. The purple sun doesn't seem to be all that faint, but clearly my brain is working overtime to deliver it to me because I find myself gritting my teeth, holding my breath, squinting more, etc., etc. And in the end, I can't see any detail either.
Cheers,
