What about long distance lightning? I know of reports of it being seen over 50miles away

That maybe so, but it just doesnt sit well in my mind given what was seen.
I do think it is electrical in nature, but I'd be surprised if it was distant/over the horizon lightening.

The one time I posted about it, it did cackle the AM car radio so that would back up the electrical idea. Well it rules out the cosmic ray interacting with something in my eyeball and producing a Cherenkov radiation a few mm from my retena anyway

I was driving home from Galway a few months back and I noticed blue flashes though the rear view mirror. They were oscillating and completely filled the field of view. I pulled over when the officer put on the siren.
