What's your scope?

Hi folks, just wondering what make of scope(s) do people own? What do you like about it/them? What do you dislike? I'm just curious...

6.25" Dobson and an array of Binoculars!

Celestron 150mm f7 newtonian.

I don`t like much about it because I paid too much for it and it isn`t a good scope which is why I am building my own.

that sounds interesting briano, is it very difficult to build your own? i've read a little about it and it does sound like something i'd be up for. I even have a brother-in-law who is a carpenter and he could help with the frame construction... maybe someday

Making a telescope is a *lot* easier than you might think. A Dobsonian telescope can be made with basic hand tools and off the shelf items at a DIY store. Once you decide on what size you want there are lots of optical suppliers who will sell you high quality optics at relatively affordable prices

My gear is;

16inch reflector.
5 Inch Maksutov Cassegrain
Meade ETX 70.
10x50 Binocs.

Meade 90mm ETX astro scope + various eyepieces/baader solar filter on photographic tripod.

Meade 8" LX10 deluxe SCT with telrad + 2 finder scopes and home made 'sweeping handles'.

Meade 16" F/4.5 Starfinder Dobsonian reflector with telrad, 8X50 Finder, Meade SWA 32mm 2" eyepiece with home made hand grips. (scope has been painted a different colour) and JMI NGC micro max digital setting cirlces.

10X50 and 7X50 binos.

Good pointers.....

The ETX delivers outstanding sharp moon and planetary views and is very poratble.

The 8" is still easy to move around and is a good all round scope however i would like a wider, flatter field with better contrast.

The 16" is excellent for deep sky work with a wide, field of view and superb light grasp. The azimuth motion is very stiff though and needs attention. Scope needs regular collimation but is a great scope when seyt up correctly.
