Its very handy for talking to someone in the house, as there isnt a phone line in the dome, it beats shouting across the garden in the middle of the night

Roger that Big Bear...

At the risk of getting us *both* banned, what, pray, would one need to shout across the garden for - "More Tea!" ?

OK - sorry Mr. Mod - back on topic...

Is the dome you have homemade or purchased? If home made, I'd commission you to make one for me! If purchased, how did you come across it?

Cheers
Dave

Exactly, it get cold out there. :o

As for the dome, Dave Bell made it, apparently he's making more of them, so he's the man you ask. Its not quite finished yet, I'm waiting for a few more bits'n pieces to be installed.
Its a fine design, the base is 114 inches across and is a square, the dome itself is made up of 3 big pieces bolted together, its deceptively strong given the weight. I've never seen anything destroy jigsaw blades like this stuff , a good blade will only last a few feet before its teeth are completely stripped, this is due to the tremendous heat fibreglass makes when its cut.
Its actually destroyed drill bits meant for drilling metal. !

Seanie, why dont you build one now, its not a massive job, I have light pollution, dont wait for things to be perfect or it'll never get built.

Funny you mentioned that, Mike and I were talking about it yesterday while he was down. Then he saw ho small by current back garden is! In reality though, this house is just the starter, the investment towards bigger, proper things to come. So I'll hold out for the time being. If I'm lucky, sure I can use the TAS 12" dob and dome (when its fixed up) whenever I want! ;)

After seeing your back garden, you have some room for an observatory, did you not see all the "sheds" your neighbours have.
Thanks for the tea and biscuits :)
