Thanks Jeff!
BTW, you should post a link to the cloudynights.com website where you have a discussion of your observatory. Looks like you're making good progress there!
Congrats on the arrival of your new scope! Now I know why it's been cloudy the last week!

Hi Jeff,
I went to cloudy nights, ands I'm very impressed, the pillar is fantastic.
When its finished, it'll be a joy to use.

Indeed. For any interested readers, a quick summary: a 10' diameter, 10' tall cylinder under a 10' ProDome, with 10 tons of concrete up the middle in the wee county. Full details (w/ lots of pictures) available at:

Yes, I'm afraid I'm to blame.

Dave --

Thanks. I'm at a bit of a lull right now (my ProDome's not due for another 3 weeks, and I don't really want the timber structure sitting in the rain for any longer than necessary). I hope to get back to it next week.

Hi Jeff,

I also have a 10' ProDome from with a 16 inch SCT operating in it. Its a good combination of using this size of instrument within that dome. I had to make a 20 foot diameter concrete platform. The pier is 12"x12" steel box, 5 feet below ground within massive plug of concrete 6 feet deep 10 feet diameter, leaving the annulus about 2 feet thick. After completion I felt the whole job was overkill. But the results from the instrumentation are good.

Look forward to hearing about your progress.

I now secured the bamboo to the roof with 3mm rope. It loks alot brighter here than in reality due to the flash.
