As I only used 9mm MDF on the floor, I quickly found that it was too light and wouldn't last the test of time, despite many supports underneath. However, all wasn't lost. As I constructed a new roof for the shed, I had the old heavy timber roof lying there doing nothing. So, I stripped the planks of wood off of it and placed them on the floor. This extra material provided a much stronger floor.
I also got a small can of paint and painted the pier. It's not your typical household paint, rather a thick oil-based paint for painting metal and which helps protect against rust. What do you think of the colour? (Not sponsored by Meade!)

After doing this, I had a couple of things left to do:
1) Threaded Bars: The threaded bars were 1m in length. This was simply too long. So, I was in B&Q in Naas yesterday and picked up an angle grinder. This made light work of them! I left them plenty long enough just in case - angle grinders don't come with an UNDO button, for some reason!
2) Leaks. During a typical shower of rain the roof was fine. However, during really heavy rain combined with a strong wind, a few drops were getting past the top joint in the roof. So, I bought a roll of plastic and covered the walls and roof with it. The main reason for covering the walls was due to the fact that 220 volts will be flowing in here and I just didn't want to risk getting fried to death at the scope!
3) Floor. The floor boards looked a bit rough so i picked up some cheap carpet in Blanchardstown and cut it to suit. Not only does the place look better, it's more comfortable to walk on and *might* help protect something should it fall from my hand while observing. The carpet is also cut in such a way as to make it easy to hide cables underneath it so that I don't trip over them while observing.
4) Shelf. I needed a place to store a few astro bits'n'pieces and also needed a shelf to place my laptop. I got a narrow bookshelf and left out a shelf or two so as to allow enough space to open up the screen of the laptop and store a large box or two.
So, basically, that's it! FINISHED!

The colour is better then the description you gave me last week.
I presume you're going to cut the threrad bar and not have it that long, what size gap are you finally going to put between the 2 plates.
I presume the paint is gloss, it doesnt mark easily?
I polar alligned my own pillar during the weekend ad I'd say I'm within a few minutes of the pole, the scope can do a goto from capella to mars and the image falls within the fov of the toucam.
Before this proper polar alignment, the gotos in polar mode were out by a massive margin.
this is something you'll also encounter if you use the wedge again.

I'll probably cut them shorter as some stage. Not for the mo though. They're not in the way.
As for the carpet colour, I'll do my best to "camoflage" it with my boots! It's actually a little darker than the photo shows, due to the flash.

If I was you, I'd get something like plasterboard and attach it over the plastic, you might get condensation on those plastic sheets.
What is the width of the thread bars?
