I wouldn't like to have any shares in film manufacturing companies.
Film is dead, long live digital

Not quite!
Quote from dpreview.com:
What a difference a word can make, in this case it's the word "considers". An earlier Reuters UK news article stated "Canon to halt film camera development", shortly afterwards Reuters were forced to correct this and replace the word 'to' with 'considers', hence "Canon considers halt to film camera development". With this subtle change (and some edits in the article itself) the news is, well, nothing definite. A Canon spokesman has essentially stated that they are currently trying to decide if there is a need to keep developing compact and SLR film cameras because of the shrinking market.

Argh. I despise digital cameras. Manual all the way. Its far more fun and its the only way to take a real photo as far as I'm concerned!

Like a manual Digital SLR?
I hope they don't stop the film process entirely though. I've never got quite as brilliant, vibrant or realistic colour shouts from digital as I have with a good colour slide. Plus my now very ageing slide scanner can get 10 megapixel tiffs from slides which beats my curent digital SLR.
I'd also miss black and white developing. Not that I do it that often, but evey now and again its nice to get the chemicals and papers and develop and print a years worth of B&W film. Who needs photoshop when you can put you hand over a bit of paper briefly to underexpose it and only see your results as its being washed in a tray of strange chemicals!
Plus my minolta 300mm lens on 100ISO slide film is still sharper than the canon 350D and f4 70-200mm lens. Even if the minolta does take about 7 seconds for the autofocus to make up its mind!
Cheers,
~Al
