Once you go C14, you never go back. That should just about describe how pleased I am with the C14 as a serious scope.
For solar system work, especially high-res work, the native 3910 mm focal length is awesome. Add 14" of photon collecting ability and you are a happy camper.
As for drawbacks, focusing requires some time to finetune and in contrast to my AP160 where it snaps into perfect focus very easily. I would also recommend a VERY good mount if you plan to do any astrophotography and especially at native f/11 or 3910 mm. With the reducer/corrector, we are down to around 2350 mm.
I should also point out that the 14" from Meade is at f10 and not f11 as is the case for the Celestron.
I would recommend a C14 to anyone without the slightest doubt or hesitation. Do not let the weight (45 lbs) intimidate you ... it is not an issue!
Anthony.

Hi Michael,Thanks Anthony.
Seems strange that the Meade OTA would weigh 1.5 times.
Are you happy with your scope? Any drawbacks?

PS. I think Damian Peach very recently just picked up a C14. That should tell you something.

Thanks Anthony.
I've just ordered a Gemini G41 Observatory mount which should be able for that sort of payload.

I'll have to wait a while yet though. Lead time at the moment puts it out towards the end of September. Better than waiting three years though I guess.
