Love your pics of the aurora John & the giant binoculars at the advertising agency. Did you tell them they were facing the wrong way? You'd need a very wide face to use them
It is a good idea though. But I guess the way Ireland is they would add about 5 grand to your insurance policy!
Actually I browsed the web last night and saw a whole bunch of info on home made observatories/light shields. I must look into building one as they seem to get great results.

Many thanks for the kind words Trevor. The trailer-mounted scope is a real beauty.
That said, observing at the RTMC this year was pretty low key as the wind was quite strong with a lot of dust blowing about. The skies were quite clear though and once again I was amazed by the amount of detail in the various DARK nebulae that I swept up in the 15x70mm binoculars. The RTMC site is at 7,200 feet (gasp!) and is very dark.
