One more thought, Drift alignment takes a little practice to master. Believe me when I say I know your frustration, but if you master the drift method, it will be second nature for you to do this in a short time frame.
Remember, if your mount is not tracking for a 30 sec exposure that a guide scope won’t do you much good. A guide scope should only be making small adjustments and not tiring to make large adjustments or chasing down a guide star.
Last, I would not give up on your mount just yet. If you can’t connect with someone who uses the drift method that can show you how easy it is, just have some persistence.

Whoa! Thanks all. Lots of great information here.
Keith, sorry to hear about your mount troubles. I had thought that 1 minute tracking was possible out of the box, but it looks like I was wrong on that.
I'll let ye know how it all works out.
Thanks again
Trev

If its any help Keith, I've totally dismantled my lx200 mount on a number of occasions to fix problems that croped up.
If you have any DIY skill, you should be fine.
