Can you not achieve declination balance by sliding the OTA along the fitting?

I could, but due to the weight of the mirror at the back of the tube and the added weight of the William Optics focuser, the centre of gravity is very much towards the rear of the OTA. The final position was achieved by combining the small counterweight with movement of the OTA in the dovetail adapter.

Further to a number of serious threats I received in other threads on this website from a certain individual from "across the water" who shall remain nameless, I've now installed a more advanced alarm system in the observatory. Along with the normal standard features such as PIR, remote control, etc, if also features the recently patented Scouser Theft Detection System, or STDs for short. The effects it can have on the assailant can include destruction of night vision, inability to say "alright", and total confusion leading the assailant to swap their AP1200 for a Tasco equatorial mount.

Needless to say, the consequences are devastating on the attacker!

Regards,

Michael.

Dave G, Dave L & Dave Mc,
I got a reply back from the manufacturer of th mount re my query concerning directiojn of rotation of DEC axis as discussed at my place last week. His laptop went bust over the last week and couldn't respond to my e-mails. Anyay, I've had a couple of e-mails back and forth with him over the last 24hrs and suffice to say the issue is now resolved! Just tried the mount this morning and it works perfectly! :)
The cause: well, it wasn't the mount or the manual....I'll say no more!
