Spotting scope was created by b318isp
My finder scope is the weakest part of my telescope. It is very small, only lets through the brightest stars and continually mists up. Any recommendations on what are alternatives? Is it easy to get better replacements?

What kind/size scope is it, you should consider getting a meade 8x50 finder, or a telrad.
I got a telrad and velcrod it to the side of the scope and it works very nicely.

You'll find them on astromart going at a good price.

It's a 1000-114 reflector.

One more question, would a low power lens be a good idea? I was thinking of a Plossl 40 or 60?

If you go too low in power with any type of reflector scope or SCT, you'll end up seeing a dark shadow in the center of the field of view when looking through the scope, this is the shadow cast by the secondary mirror onto the primary. Its especially obvious when the sky is someway bright..
