to Barberskum, im new to telescopes totally, got interested in astron,20yrs ago,and just geting around to it now, read lots on it though,
im interested in seeing a galaxy or two, my first view of andromeda was few weeks ago on back roads, binoculars 8x40 ,very high up to get it on the scope had no chair, also the whirlpool m51 seems easy enough, but i noticed that the light pollution band reaches alkaid,so thats out , thnks

Where abouts are you?
You should get in touch with your nearest club and bring along your 'scope and I'm sure some of the more experienced members would be more than happy to give you some pointers and help you along.
There is a list of affilitated clubs on this board.

You're very welcome to attend our meetings at South Dublin Astronomical Society (SDAS).
You don't need to join unless you want to but just drop in for the meeting and the chat afterwards and of course any advise we can give you.
We're meeting on tomorrow night the 9th at Gonzaga College Ranelagh at 8.00 pm.
If you need directions give me a shout by PM.
The talk is on "Blinded by the light", a talk on Light Pollution to be given by Albert White, Vice-Chairperson of the Irish Light Pollution Awareness Campaign.
On the night we'll also have a talk by Cian MacMahon on the wonderful world of podcasting.
