Could anyone out there recomend a good Star Atlas. I have being using a Plainisphere for the last year and want to progress.

If you want something more substantial, I highly recommend Sky Atlas 2000 by Wil Tirion.
Also if you search this board you will find a post by John Flannery (skynotes) who refers to a freeware star atlas which can be downloaded and printed. (sorry dont have time to go digging for it now). Just use the search for a post by skynotes including the word 'atlas' and you should find it.

Hi Donal,
I use Cartes du Ciel,,it's a great interactive chart and can be used on a laptop in red nighttime mode.search for "cartes du ciel" and it is an easy download,If you cant get it I have it on memory stick and you can have it at our next session.
