There is a name for people who live by the phases of the moon Anthony.
That is where the word "lunatic" comes from.
Peter.

We shall not cease from exploration
And the end of all our exploring
Will be to arrive where we started
And know the place for the first time. . . .

Better that old people should die of talk than to have young people die in war.

€599 for a 6" Newtonian with a motorized tripod and 2" focuser would be a bargain.
€599 for a 6" Newtonian with a goto tripod and 2" focuser would be even better.
Of course if you really want more you can always pay €633 for a quaintly finished 6.25" home brew f/8 Newt on an antiquated mount and fitted with a state of the art 1.25" focuser. Who needs to use 2" eyepieces?
I might be tempted by the neu und größer Lidlscope. But looking outside I do wonder when I'd ever get to use it!

I wonder is it worth getting just for the mount alone, I wouldn't be too pushed about the scope.
I've a MAK which might look good on it... anyone else considering doing this ??
Which autostar do you get with this, the cheapo one or the one with all the buttons ???
Is this the same mount you get with the 8 ands 10 inch models ??
According to meades website this thing has a goto accuracy of 15 arc minutes, about half the full moon diameter... not exactly what you'd call high precision. Have a look

Wouldn't that depend on how serious, well-located and well-equipped an amateur astronomer you are Dave?
My biggest scope is a C5 spotter (5" f/10), I have a couple of AltAz mounts and my motorised mount is a rather finicky EQ3-2 GEM. My widest field scope is a secondhand Televue Ranger. Not exactly state of the art. I'm essentially a sightseer and what you might call a 'fair weather' astronomer, you won't see me out for long in sub-zero temperatures. On those nights you'll find me logged on to Slooh or watching TV stars :!:
The LXD75 N6 would give me a 6" f/5 reflector and a goto GEM that can be used with any of my scopes, which is a definite improvement but the kit is neither excessively costly nor likely to lie in a corner unused because it's too much trouble to take out at night.
I'm sure you'll agree that there's room for all levels of interest in the hobby and the scopes sold by Lidl serve a genuine need given the limited shopping choices we have here in Ireland.
