Finally Got my new scope! was created by fguihen
just got my new scope! celestron C 6s xlt on a CG 5 mount. also got some televue eyepieces (2nd hand a few weeks ago). cant wait for a chance to test it out. will really get to test it at the weekend when i go home to the west of ireland , darkest skies youl get in ireland id say, so long as the weather is good. is there anywhere within walking/ cycling distance of stillorgan that is good for viewing ( as i dont have a car)?

Congratulations,
I live close by (Dundrum) and there arn't any dark skys to be found. I do a lot of observing from the back garden which is not overlooked by many street lights and that's the least worst option available for home observing.
Have a look around where you live and try to find a spot which is not illuminated by local lights (and which is safe!).

Yes indeed the west is a great place for dark skies.
I spent a weel last summer in Doonbeg and
let me tell you, I can't wait to get down there for a week at Christmass.
The weather is gonna be pretty lousy for the rest of the week.
Here's hoping for a clear spell this weekend!!!

just got the scope set up for the first time. got a 6" one as i wanted a portable(ish) scope but jes, the CG5 mount is huge. the scope is tiny on top of it, and it weigh's a ton! not portable at all!!! need a car now!!! this hobby is getting very expensive!
