Bummer. I assume it would only be a certian age range of scopes that would be affected? I mean, it takes a couple of years for the problem to come to light? If so, there should be a recall - for safety and quality reasons.

It is a manufacturing problem which Coronado had admitted to.

It would appear that it is a certain range of scope that are affected. However, Coronado say there is no safety issue, just a performance issue. Therefore, they have not done a product recall.
Apparently, the problem surfaces about 6 months or so after manufacture, or so I'm told.
Regards,

well Trevor,did you return it?
I had to return mine two years ago, different problem,
but they also changed the objective just in case of this problem.
Because you are in Europe, they expect you to use`Meade Europe`
to send it to U.S.A.,to cover the cost of postage and honour the warranty.
monopolies or what?
Pat

hi Pat,
Sorry, haven't logged in for a while.
Yes, it's gone to Meade now. I held off for a while as there was lots of solar activity a couple of weeks ago that I wanted to get a look at (too many clouds though).
I contacted Meade Germany and they said that they would take care of it in Europe. I was surprised as the scope was purchased in Tucson, AZ. Good service from Meade. Should be no problems with customs now as Meade Germany now fix them inhouse
Will let ye know how it works out.
Cheers,
Trev
