Yeah... it's proving to be a bit more work than I envisaged... especially as it's geodesic an'all!
I'm knocking up a webpage with pics'n'words describing the project. I'll post it up soon.

Personally, I'd go for a dome-shaped roof. I think it could be more resilient to strong winds, but of course, I've been known to know jack when it comes to structural integrety!

I think the one big advantage of a roll-off roof over a dome is the nice natural view you have of the total sky. The disadvantage of the dome is that you will feel isolated from that. As always in life you can't have it both ways!
So if you would have a site that has(other) protection from the wind I would certainly want a roll off.

Dave your moving to Galway!?! gee we could really use someone of your experience for our club observing sessions... ronan used to direct them but unfortunately he moved further afar!

Matthew, we'll be living in Galway at some point. I really hope its soon - the light pollution here is really starting to bug me.
