If we could cut all power to dublin, i might actually see something!
Convert my scope to GOTO!!! was created by hal9500
Hi folks, i am planing to convert one of my telescopes to a goto system for easier viewing and photography. The telescope i intend to convert is the bresser 102 i bought in lidl last year. Ive found this scope to be amazing with my current eyepieces. The only problem i have is finding items, which is far more difficult than on my celestron or DTG Reflector.
So my main question relates to the tripod. Does the entire tripod and mount need replacing or just the mount? Perhaps a motor with a goto system built in(im not sure of the physics of this idea, the brainchild of a friend, but just thought id ask).
Any recommendations on mounts or tripods would be greatly appreciated
Thanking you all in advance, for any assistance!

i had the same idea about 8 months ago, and Carl O'Birnes from Astronomy Ireland shop ( and these boards) sorted me out with a Celestron CG5 GoTo.
Its an excellent GoTo mount for the money and the tripod is very sturday also. Might be worth giving Carl a call and see if what he has suits your needs

is there any other option for this type of setup, has anyone else done this type of thing! thanks guys, the CG5 seems very expensive

I reckon you'd spend an awful lot more trying to get a cheapo mount motorised and still end up with a lemon.
The CG5 is probably the cheapest way in the long run. Even at that you'll still only be on the first rung of the ladder. Many on these boards will attest to the stability and accuracy of the CG5 (for the money involved it is worth it). I am a recent adopter of the CG5 and am amazed at the difference between the accuracy and stability that this mount/tripod combo gives over my older GOTO system - a C102SLT. Sure it's a bit more hassle to set up, but you get used to it quite quickly, and adopt a regimen that can get you accurately aligned and setup in about 15 minutes. After that you can easily get super accurate GOTO even with a high to medium power eyepiece, and no need to change - which is very reassuring if the object you are trying to image is not even visible in an eyepiece.
