Meade to make big product announcement on 3rd of January. was created by dave_lillis
Hi All,
Apparently Meade is to make a product announcement on the 3rd of January, lots of speculation on the web as to what its all about,
some say its about adding USB to the scope, or a major overhall to the opto-mechanics of the GPS scopes, or a wireless GPS/DEC drive and wireless handcontroller system !
Others suggesting a completely invisible corrector plate due to the zero loss a new coating will provide, or even a cloud removal device for those more bad-weather sites or the ultimate GOTO system where the scope walks outside and sets itself up
My bet is that they're going to copy the "joystickstar" (thanks Seanie) I built 2 weeks ago

Given that Meade are preannouncing the announcement, and people like optcorp are saying nothing I'm going to offer 2 ideas:
1. The first of the Meade-Coronado scopes... Anyone reading this want to give us insider information?
2. Fully wireless. Java software to control the scope from anywhere on any OS including interfaces to the LPI/DSI focusing etc.
Oh and changing the colour of the scopes again too obviously

Albert,
"change the colour again"??, when was it changed in the first place, they're all blue or white?? or do you mean the pictures on the tubes of the ETXs..
I would be surprised if the announcement didnt involve H-alpha scopes in some shape or form,
maybe affordable (I nearly wrote cheap ) h-alpha masks for its range of LX200s

I was talking to the guys in Scope City today and they feel that the announcement will relate to a wireless interface with the Meade -- but they didn't even know about it until I told them about this thread. The basic wireless setup will allow a general command interface. To transfer images, etc. would need WiFi.
the timing of the announcement they feel could be early February as there is a major photo equipment show in Las Vegas that traditionally has been the venue for Meade or Celestron to roll out new products.
cheers,
John
