www.betapointer.com/ has a 5mw one (as opposed to 3-5) costs a bit more though. Thats there I got mine and I think John Flennery too.
Same here...
...well, I have to thank Dee for getting it for me!

They have stopped selling the lasers because of what has been happening in terms of people pointing lasers at aircraft! They are "proud supporters of the war on terror"!
I wonder how long it will be until box cutters are banned!?!?!?!

I did a bit of searching and also came across the scopestuff laser and holder, infact its a great bits'n-pieces site for those hard to get parts.
I've ordered from there a number of times over the last year or so, mailing costs from him are also cheep.
When it says that you can only order >5mW lasers for professional use, what exactly does it mean, if you tell them you're an astronomer and are going to use it for collimating your optics, would that be enough ???
It doesnt say that you need to be an employee in a company who is ordering it for a company, besides these are american laws, they obviously dont apply here.
Those Wicked lasers/light-sabers are awesome !!!

If you had a really powerful one you could point out the ISS as it passes overhead...can you see it?..... Ka-boom!...... eh...... opps!

After all this talk on these lasers, I'm going to look on the web and see if I can get one.
I'm feeling the same way Dave. I always thought of them as gimmicks. Cool, but gimmicks nonetheless. Now I definitely want one!

These lasers could be the answer to all our light polution problems. Just find an offending light within a 20 mile radius.. point your GALPD "Green Anti Light pollution Devise" at it and watch as the offending light disappears.. well....actually explodes... no more light pollution!! Perfect.

I've heard of people actually doing this, no, not exploding them but annoyed astronomers pointing them at an annoying nearby light (at the light sensor) and fooling the light into thinking its daytime, thus putting it out.
Shane,
Gimmicks are cooool , well at least in this instance.
