I have a 20+mw laser and used with safety it is an excellent tool, both as a pointer for my scope and as an educational aid.

If people want to be silly and point it into other peoples eyes then thats a bit sad. But i could easily blind someone by poking my finger into an eye also.
I can buy a crossbow in almost any sports shop which would be capable of killing as would the cars we drive, the food we eat, the drink we imbibe and the smoke we inhale.....

Dont forget our blink reflex which I am sure will limit the amount of time we are exposed to the deadly laser rays

Unfortunately, our blink reflex is not fast enough to protect us from direct laser light.

Of course, class I and II lasers should not damage the eyes (but I'd avoid looking at them anyhow).

Lets cut to the chase here, if you have one of these lasers and are responsible, then all's well. If you are an idiot and think its great craic pointing it at passing cars, then thats your funeral.

I have 2 of these lasers, one is 5mW, the other I'm not going to say.

It is funny, I am hobby archer and I was unable to bring my crossbow here. From one strong point it is prohibited here :-)

20+ mW? Where are you observing? In the city center? If you will ever use it near me during observing, I will kick you and your "excelent tool" from the rocks. :-)

Did you ever hear about red dot finder? It is the same, but you will not lose adaptation. Yes and it cost only 20 euro.

And this lasers are so cool... and lot of people can't even spell the word "RESPONSIBILITY". I am not protecting stupid kids, I am protecting myself.

And one more point, what do you think that will happend, when you will remove green filter at the output of laser diod?

I also own archery gear and it can be bought in any town in Ireland.
and yes I do a bit of my observing from a large town
and no i will not be taking my laser apart to remove any filters.

I even bought another laser pointer recently, I reckoned one on my dob and another for teaching beginners the sky
