Celestron bring on a new fork scope ! was created by dave_lillis
Hi,
Looks like Celestron have decided to fight the Meades LX series head on
www.celestron.com/prod_pgs/tel/cpc_index.php
Their prices are really good also, they're curently better bang for buck then the LX200 series, although meade might compensate soon ??
Meades 12" Lx200 +UHTC = $3890
Meades 10" LX200 +UHTC = $2980
Celestrons CPC 1100XLT (11") = $2799 !!
Thats enough to swing my head around and give it a serious look.
Not forgetting you know who at you know where , who'd probabily add a zero onto that celestron price.

Ya, when I bought my telescope there, I found out about 6 months later that I could have bought 2 same scopes in England for the same price! That new scope looks really cool! The cpc 1100 looks cool and cheep enough for an 11 inch scope, something I might be intrested in getting.Do you think this scope is value for money?

I certainly do, it beats the current meade prices per aperture.
My only concern is how good is the software,
I've read more problem with celestron scopes in term of software then with meade scopes, then again meade scopes have their problems also,
Hopefully, they have it nailed with this scope..
I'm prepaired to be shot for this, but this is just what I gathered from sifting through the web. It seems like there is no such thing as a perfect (cheap) manufacturer.
As for paying over the odds, get it abroad, I would.
I read receintly, that Celestron suppliers in the US WILL ship to Ireland, unlike their Meade conterparts.

It does look good. AND, it has the same amount of database objects as the Meade equivalent in the controller. BUT, I would say that the new mount design looks thicker/bulkier than its Meade counterpart - could make it that bit harder to store without scratching etc the nice looking plastic.
Still, for that kind of price, you really can't go wrong when all you've seen recently is all Meade LX this and Meade LX that...

WHATS UP?What software problems are you speaking about?I have been looking on the web and it seems that none of the u.s. shops have it yet.One of the shops says that their shipments are to begin in the summer.David Hinds in the U.K. has notting of it on his website, but will he be the same price as in the U.S.?The U.S. sites I visited, have the same prices, I am just wondering will the price skyrocket after a few months out.Is it safe to order from the U.S., I have read the other post?

Looks very rugged. How much of that is solid and how much is just hollow plastic casing remains to be seen. However, to be fair, it does look good.
